Two Truths

“Capturing a moment” is deceptive. It is not possible to envelope how a moment authentically feels.

Traditional documentary photographs are so final they become false. They create their own reality, which forces memory on the photograph, rather than a memory embedding itself into the photograph.

The following images were not “witnessed.” They cannot be placed to a single point in time. They did not exist until the camera captured them, yet they are definitive. There is truth in both their accuracy and inaccuracy.

These photographs do not attempt to “capture a moment,” but rather to capture a memory within the photos.

This is my anti-thesis to Henri Cartier-Bresson’s “decisive moment.”

These are the Two Truths.

Mixed media - film & digital - all exposures were made in camera.
